We're STILL reeling about it, Katie. It's just so sad. The good cheese sellers (Monforte) are in our neighbourhood tomorrow. I'll drop by and see if they have any soft cheeses. If not, we still have some lovely aged Gouda in the fridge.

I wonder if that rule about the epoisse on the metro is enforced. My guess is no. I just can't see any French person having the nerve to tell someone who is carrying basically a goodmine to get off the train. (In fact I bet if they DO enforce it, it's just so they can confiscate the epoisse for their own table. :-))

Yes, Jude, bread and cheese really are wonderful. Isn't it amazing that "bread and cheese" are sometimes considered as second-class things to eat? Not in our house!

How awful! Two of them... I'd be so bummed!
I didn't know that about the epoisse in Paris... and I do love that cheese!
Hope the next you get more than makes up for this. It can really leave a bad taste in your mouth (groan)

No no, Brilynn; I'm sorry I didn't make it clear. It wasn't Monforte's cheese that was bad! It was the other cheese seller's. We've had only great cheese from Monforte and only good encounters with the people who work for her. (Haven't yet met her....) But I agree that Ruth Klassne would be sad that what we got wasn't up to par. Even though it wasn't from her dairy, it gives the local artisanal cheese makers a bad mark.

I attended a Cheese talk earlier this year put on by George Brown with Ruth Klassen, (owner of Monforte cheese) and she really does do wonderful things. I urge you to talk to her about the cheese you received this week. She's a very friendly woman and loves to talk about cheese, I'm sure she'd feel awful that the stuff you got wasn't up to par.
