Shriek!!!! I can’t believe it. I’m taking the opportunity of the break in the heat wave to bake bread today. I am making two loaves of cornbread and two loaves of sandwich bread. 30 minutes ago, I turned the oven on to preheat it. The corn bread dough was exactly right. I just slid it into the oven and immediately realized that the oven wasn’t nearly hot enough. It was only 200F instead of 500F… Fuse blown. Fuse is now fixed. Oven is preheating yet again. But the corn bread loaves are flat as pancakes and we are going to have to serve flat bread yet again. I’ve had a tremendous amount of trouble making sure that that corn bread doesn’t overrise. It was going to be perfect!
