our new camera – boon or curse?

You’ve probably guessed that I’m pretty excited about having this camera. However, the bad thing about it is that whether the image is blurred or in focus, the camera doesn’t lie. And as I started noticing that the stovetop wasn’t as clean as I thought it was…

ewwww I mean really. Take a close look at the first image. Look at that disgusting brown stuff burnt onto the edge of the burner! Look at all those spatters of brown burnt onto the sides of the kettle! Revolting.
aahhhh
But baking soda, vinegar and elbow grease has remedied the situation and I can now hold my head up high again (until I suddenly notice the brown sludge creeping back into the pictures)

Tonight’s dinner isn’t going to help… we’re having dhansak, onion pulao and aloo gobi.

Hehheh, from the aromas wafting from the kitchen, I think it might be worth the sacrifice.

    It looks beautiful! The stove top even looks a whiter shade of white, although that may be due to clever application of the advertiser’s trick of having the model frown in the bad hair picture and smile in the good hair picture.

    What’s the broccoli dish in the “after” image?

    That’s broccoli stir-fry to go with Hoisin-chicken-and-peanuts that we had for dinner the night after I did all the stove cleaning.

    Hehheh, I’ve been caught!! I didn’t actually mean to have a different colour of white in the before picture. I had to go through files to find a shot that really showed how disgraceful the chrome had gotten. It’s true. The white was basically the same because the white was pretty much the same clean (much easier to clean that section every day)

    Is Aloo Gobi the same as Sabji? Perhaps a different language/dialect? Whatever it’s called, I love it. I think there is no other way to cook cauliflower. I had Sabji for the first time about 5 years ago and I begged my colleague to give me the recipe. Of course, it’s one of those recipes that she just knows how to make–kind of like how I make chili–no recipe, just knowhow. She wrote out a recipe for me and I followed it; sadly, it was bad, bad, bad. I’ve tried other recipes since and have come close. I think I had a bad batch of garam masala so I’ve tossed what I had and tried a new one given to me by an Indian lady. It’s much better but sadly, I’ve lost the recipe given to me by my colleague. I’ll give this a try in a while and let you know.

    I know what you mean about the camera not telling a lie. I’ve had that happen to me a few times. I’ve actually noticed spots on a tablecloth or just how greasy the sink is after looking at a picture of those items, rather than before!

    Still, congratulations on the new camera. I look forward to your photos!

    And is there problem that a little elbow grease won’t resolve???

    From what I understand, “sabji” is a vegetable curry. So I guess that “Aloo gobi” is a kind of sabji – in fact, maybe the “sabji” part is understood and it is actually “Aloo gobi sabji”. “Aloo” means potato and “gobi” means cauliflower. Although we don’t usually put garam masala into aloo gobi, I hope that our version of it works for you, MrsBrown!

    This is exactly what has happened to me, Ivonne. I’ve imagined that everything looks beautiful as I snap the pictures and then when I look at them, I see things like giant blots of grease or brownish stains that are somehow magnified. It’s almost as if there is a neon glow around the stains with a flashing arrow pointing to them. (hehehehe)

    Elbow grease is certainly a great cleaner. But alas, elbow grease cannot clean up blurry pictures back into focus… (I am getting better at holding the camera still though)
