The Bread Baking Babes' task for August 2011 was to make Vienna Bread. I chose to shape half the recipe into Kaiser Rolls. As you can see, my shaping needs a little work.

Because I allowed the bread to rise a little too much, the definition of the design virtually disappeared.

I shaped the other half of the dough into a boule. Alas, when it appeared to be burning on the bottom in the barbecue, we turned it over and the amazing oven spring we were getting disappeared in a "whhfffff".


To rescue it, we sliced the bread and grilled it with a little olive oil drizzled over. It was fabulous.



The Kaiser rolls were delicious with butter....

And even more delicious with Black Forest ham fried in butter and served with a salad.

This is the reason we love to bake bread on the barbecue. The view is great. (fuschia, impatiens, lemon balm, cardamom)
