This morning I was checking google for faro recipes. I hit upon one that the translation had mangled just a bit. I looked a bit closer when the ingredient list called for "1 turnip white woman" and "1 nail of garofano".
Have a look http://www.agriturismoitaly.it/english/cucina/abruzzo.htm ; it's pretty amazing!

That is fantastic!

I like that the Gulash on this page calls for "mannered onions":
http://www.agriturismoitaly.it/english/cucina/friuli.htm

(We always make sure that our onions are mannered! If not, out they go to the compost. There's no place for ill-mannered onions in our kitchen.)

bravo!

I found the Italian version of that recipe http://www.agriturismoitaly.it/cucina/abruzzo.htm. When I ran the page through the Altavista translator , it gave some of the same bizarre results (1 turnip white woman, 1 nail of garofano). But the translation is not identical (for example "1 bone of bakon" vs "1 bone of prosciutto" la la la ) which could mean a few things:

  • The Altavista translator has changed since the site did its translation
  • They used a different automatic translator that happens to have some of the same quirks
  • They have changed the Italian page since the translation was done
  • The translation was manually corrected (by wolves, perhaps?)

On second reading, I've decided than this dish would, in fact, be incomplete without 1 turnip white woman!
