Here's a great UTube video about how wikisites operate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dnL00TdmLY

I just read the following article http://www.powells.com/review/2007_07_14 which is a review of a book called "Misquoting Jesus" in which the author described the Bible as the original Wiki - as it has been edited by so many different people so many times that it's impossible to ever get back to the "original".

You might find the documentary Who Wrote The Bible on http://www.tv-links.co.uk interesting.

The field of textual criticism is huge. In this field, I'd recommend Gordon Fee's books, since he's almost always named as one of the leading scholars of textual criticism. He has edited a collection in this field, Studies in the Theory and Method of New Testament Textual Criticism. See a review at http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3817/is_199803/ai_n8790593 . I wonder if Prof. Fee wishes he'd written more catchy debunking slogans to sell more books!

But speaking of wikis, I wish wikipedia had more and better scholars contributing to it. The best scholars don't have a lot of time to do this -- too busy writing articles for journals that only they and their students will read. For example, in my field, the entries are really lousy -- seem to have been written by people who took one course -- but it seems overwhelming to me to go into wikipedia to really clean it up and add to it!

When it comes to selling books, my guess is there's more money to be made by writing New Testament textual criticism than by writing about the theories and methods of New Testament textual criticism.

I think the number of articles written by good scholars in wikipedia compared to the number written by poor scholars probably reflects the relative numbers of each group in real life.
