Beethoven's 5th symphony

I've heard various conductors say that Beethoven 5 is notoriously difficult to start. Here is my personal favourite version!

He gives a whole new connotation to "notoriously difficult". (I'm particularly impressed with this orchestra. I have no idea how they manage to stay together.)

This is fascinating! I've watched it a few times. If you watch him in the distance shots it makes more sense (once the first few bars are over, which are truly amazing! I guess the orchestra watches for the subtle cues!)

Toscanini seems the most straightforward.

Indeed. But I think the subtle cues may be coming from the bravo! concert master bravo! . (Note that we can't really see what the concert master is doing in the video.)

I think that particular concertmaster should receive several medals.
