Inside Isolation Baking, there are beautiful photos and recipes galore to make during this extended time of Staying At Home. We already know that Jamie’s cookbook Orange Appeal is wonderful – there are a number of keeper recipes in it in case you don’t have your copy yet. In fact, you neeeeeeeed to get it, even if it’s just for the orange spiced butter in the Orange Appeal recipe for Orange Cardamom Scones with Honey-Orange Spiced Butter on pages 110-112!
So far, I’ve only skimmed through Isolation Baking but the recipes for leek and potato soup, cauliflower and potato gratin, lemon risotto, lemon chicken pasta with peas, chicken with preserved lemons and olives, gözleme pastries, and mushroom and caramelized onion quiche, are calling to me.
Jamie has also included biscuits and scones. Ha. We had better put oranges on our grocery list so we can make more orange spiced butter!
Ha!! With all these choices, we won’t realize we’re confined!!
(I haven’t dared to look at the cakes yet…. But I KNOW that Jamie makes great cakes!)

Isolation Baking is a collection of Jamie Schler’s favorite recipes, comforting to elegant, simple to surprising. Jamie, food writer and cookbook author, created these dishes, breads, snacks, and desserts over the years to share with family and friends; during the coronavirus pandemic, she shared them on social media as a way to feed others and to bring together a community of friends and followers who, cooking and baking together, felt less isolated. But I was challenged to find this isolation cookbook on the Canadian Apple Books website that I am automatically sent to, but one of Jamie’s FB friends (thank you, S!!) provided this Google drive link (you do not have to be logged into Google to access it) to download a pdf of the e-book.
Jamie and her husband own and run l’Hôtel Diderot in Chinon, France. Needless to say, these are challenging times for anyone in the tourism industry!

We first made orange spiced butter eons ago – in June 2016. (I can’t believe I didn’t rave out loud about it here before!) Here is proof of why you really do need to put oranges on your grocery list and the moment you get home, turn to page 112 of Orange Appeal. You can, of course, make Jamies cardamom scones, but trust me, the orange spiced butter goes beautifully with baking powder biscuits, scones, buns….
Handily, Jamie includes her recipe for regular baking powder biscuits, scones, and French bread in Isolation Baking….
