I see that the Red Cross has stopped collecting for tsunami relief. However, I am also hearing that the need is endless -- I heard an African relief worker point out that Africa has tsunami every month from AIDS related deaths. I also heard that people still believe that AIDS is the fault of the vic...

My favourite is:

"Music instrument has a plural known as orchestra."

This strikes me as having been written by someone who is quite intelligent. But why do I think so?

Re: Horrifying vanilla

I [...] discovered a letter and a cheque for the amount of the vanilla Mr. CAM had purchased! Unfortunately I think this is a US cheque -- around $12 US dollars. Wow!! That is <ol><li>expensive vanilla</li><li>very generous of the company to refund AND send replacement bottle</li></ol> I'm sure the...

Re: Horrifying vanilla

I was cleaning out the box in which the company sent the vanilla, and discovered a letter and a cheque for the amount of the vanilla Mr. CAM had purchased! Unfortunately I think this is a US cheque -- around $12 US dollars.

Re: "Control Room" - movie
Ah yes, I remember this -- it wasn't an issue of mistranslation. I think the concern was with lack of credibility of the interviewee.
Yes, I think that is right. The reason I was confused initially was because I was fading right at that point of the movie. I just couldn't believe...

Re: Horrifying vanilla

...so while Rodelle vanilla was first developed in 1936, it's looking like they may be playing fast and loose with the recipe. Note that they are calling the vanilla extract "new". I don't have the new gourmet vanilla extract. I have something called "Pure Vanilla Extract." (pho...

It's illegal here in Canada too. I'm amazed that there has to be a law about this. What lackbrain even thought that it would be a good idea to feed cattle with food that has animal remains in it?? It was a callous pursuit of profit at the expense of safety. Animal carcasses were deliberately added ...

The Aljezeera cartoons are anything but subtle, n'est ce pas? Yes, I saw the Control Room . It was pretty fascinating. (<a href="viewtopic.php?t=99#discussion">thread in this forum about Control Room </a>) Yes, pretty graphic. But I did think there was also a fair bit of subtle nuance in ...

Re: Horrifying vanilla

I would be inclined to send the syrup-infested vanilla extract back to them with a polite "Thanks but no thanks" letter explaining that you do not care for the smell or taste of things made with their cornsyrup laced product. Yes, I noticed that they didn't address the corn syrup issue. A...

Re: Not all that different

I guess the 'perspective' is different (i.e. bad guys are switched); still, seems like the same sort of fantasy propaganda the west puts out with the roles reversed. Palestinians are sweet children and Jews and Americans are monsters. Do you mean that in the west side Americans and Jews are sweet c...
